I was wondering if this straightener is temperature controlled by the person or if it's automatic.

It is controlled by the person with a little round dial. Temperatures on my 1'; version range from 140-450 degrees Fahrenheit. I ordered mine from Folica and it came with a cute hot pink, heat-proof case/placemat.
